https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=329249 Summary: after kernel update to 2.6.22.5-29: grub not updated and no more framebuffer device for CN700 chipset Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: i386 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mkoch@netz-leistung.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: System Test Hi, after the autoupdate to kernel 2.6.22.5-29, grub was appearently not updated, leading to grub still loading the older kernel, which missed its modules. After solving this grub problem, I now boot vmlinuz-2.6.22.5-29-default. Problem is that suddenly the boot process is in normal dos text mode. Apparently the frambuffer device is not generated on boot. When I try to start X manually (startx) I get (EE) open /dev/fb: No such file or directory With the previous kernel version (2.6.22.5-25) and also with the 10.3-RC2-KDE-live-CD it worked and works. The motherboard is a VIA-EPIA EN12000. The grafic system is integrated into the motherboard chipset CN700.
