Well, me too, but I can (and I did) edit xorg.conf to suit my needs.
The reason is this: regular user (*) expect to see some utility to configure
touchpad. Of course she/he can install ksynaptics on his/her own but you have
in advance there is such tool (and it is not obvious, because default set tends
to include everything necessary). And besides -- after installing default set
the need of immediate installation of tiny tools which makes using KDE
comfortable is not regular user (*) would like to see.
My point is -- default system should include everything needed to run computer
in user-friendly manner. It is much more simple to remove application A than to
install one (reason: you have to know the name, if it is installed you know it,
if it is not, you have to search).
(*) you can that because she/he installs default system
