Additional Info:
After the first usb error message in /var/log/messages
"Sep 19 20:26:13 suse10-3 kernel: usb 4-5: reset high speed USB device using
ehci_hcd and address 8"
the USB2-transfer-rate on a 800 Mhz PC is reduced from 22 Megabytes/sec
to 8 Megabytes/sec.
After the sixth same message the disk goes offline.
