[Bug 328048] updater-zypper-gui hangs on " checking for additional package updates"

Interestingly these processes were running:

8925 ?        S      0:00 /usr/lib/libgnomesu/gnomesu-pam-backend 6 5 root
/usr/sbin/updater-zypper-gui ZOPTIONS_RESTART_FALSE ZOPTIONS_RECOMMENDED_FALSE

8933 ?        S     18:28 /usr/sbin/updater-zypper-gui ZOPTIONS_RESTART_FALSE
ZOPTIONS_RECOMMENDED_FALSE ZOPTIONS_PACKAGES_TRUE 0 0 1419 <snip>


I killed 8933 and the applet cleaned up its dialog and refreshed to show 749
remaining updates.

It seems as though either updater-zypper-gui is not exiting or sending info
back to the updater gui or the updater gui is not reading it correctly.
