Hi 
I upgraded to RC1 and the problem seems to be gone.
I created an additional account to be 100% sure .bashrc doesn't interfere. I
also checked /etc/bash.bashrc and it was overwritten on upgrade so I'm now
sure.

while in MC's shell I now get:
 PS1='\u@\h:\w> '

while in konsole:
 PS1='$(ppwd \l)\u@\h:\w> '

and no problem now :)
