If I understand you correctly you can't setup 1440x900 resolution in
sax2 right ? I will not cover the yast part because it's the yast part
handled by the yast people ;) 

Ok, so could you do the following:

   init 3
   sax2 -a

   rm /var/log/X*
   X

   ===> exit with Ctrl-Alt-BackSpace

   ===> send me the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf
   ===> send me the file /var/log/X*.log
   ===> send me the file /var/log/SaX.log
