--- Comment #2 from Takashi Iwai 2007-09-21 10:09:49 MST ---
OK, the problem is that the machine has two PCI devices but only one (emu10k1)
is configured by YaST and another is not.
Since we got rid of /etc/sysconfig/hwcfg and now everything is loaded via udev,
the unconfigured sound device means no longer "disabled" but "automatically
loaded without extra setting". And, YaST sets index option when set up. This
cause conflicts, because the auto-loaded device already occupied the first slot
that the configured device wants.
Workarounds are:
1. set up all devices via YaST,
2. don't set up sound devices via YaST at all, or
3. remove index=xxx in /etc/modprobe.d/sound after YaST setup.
The disadvantage of 2 and 3 is that the order of sound device isn't determined.
Also, there is a problem reagarding upgrade. The old setup might result in a
similar situation...
Anyway, I reassign this to yast2-sound developer. Eventually, I'll need to add
a new module option to global snd module instead of local index values.
That'll make life easier. But, it's for post-10.3.
