OK, it seems that the board is simply flakey. It only crashes when >3GB RAM are
installed, and MSI says on their pages that "Windows XP 64-bit do not boot with
4GB RAM" and that a BIOS update that should solve it.
Closing as INVALID as this is clearly a hardware problem.
