https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=326503 Summary: 10.3B3plus LiveCD Boots to a Garbled Display Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 3 Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: snakedriverx@gmail.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: Beta-Customer Earlier, I reported Bug 304049 - Live CD Boots to a split screen on 17 inch laptop @ https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=304049 with the 10.3A7 livecd. The /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and /var/log/Xorg.0.log are available at the link. No matter what I select using the Fn keys, like "Text Mode" or "VESA" or a whole host of kernel parameters, the 10.3B3plus LiveCD boots to an ATI RV350NP driver which comes up with a garbled display on my Sager 4750 17 inch laptop. This is also true for the new KDE4 LiveCD. The builtin video is detected as an ATI 9600M10 with most livecd's including the openSuSE10.2 LiveDVD. "lspci" in 10.2 says that it is an ATI RV350 9600 M10 and the pciid is Class 300: 1002:4e50. The monitor is: 17.0" WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) TFT Active Matrix LCD Display. Unlike the post in Bug 304049, I get no window mentioning a x&y coordinate problem. It's the same as is detected using the 10.2 LiveDVD which works. The only way that I can use the LiveCD as a livecd, is to allow it to boot to the garbled screen: use ctrl+alt+F1 to get to runlevel 3, login as root do "sax2 -r -m 0=vesa" & accept do "rm /tmp/.X0-lock" exit root, login as linux & startx If I do startx immediately after "sax2 -r -m 0=vesa", VESA also goes to a garbled display or in some instances, a display with bombs & triangles. However, when I do rm /tmp/.X0-lock", VESA will boot to the expected display with everything up. I have also tried: "sax2 -r -m 0=mesa" "sax2 -r -m 0=ati" "sax2 -r -m 0=radeon" "sax2 -r -m 0=radeon10b" All boot to a garbled display (radeon10b is not found). I don't know of any other builtin ATI drivers to try. Are there other ATI drivers builtin that I could try? Is there a way that I can change the driver from 4e50 to another at the bootsplash? What do I mean by a garbled display? The display is divided 2/3rds on the top and 1/3 on the bottom. The 1/3 on the bottom is just a bunch of lines and frames. The top 2/3rds has a 3/4 inch garbled vertical line in the middle with a small display fully featured on the left and a similar but garbled display on the right. I can only move the mouse in the lower right quadrant and cannot get it to any other part of the display (like the top left). I was hoping to put the 10.3 LiveCD on a Flash Drive; but, will certainly hold off. I could use it, however, if the F-key selections could work in livecd mode -- like select "VESA". Thanks for thinking on this. Jim -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
