Summary: Removing GNOME on a KDE Install problems
Product: openSUSE 10.3
Version: Beta 3
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Major
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Patterns
AssignedTo: coolo@xxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: francisg@xxxxxxxxx
QAContact: coolo@xxxxxxxxxx
Found By: ---
If you have done a KDE install and then try to remove 'GNOME Base System', it
will firstly not be able to resolve all dependencies (complaining about all
gnome_* patterns).
If you disable autocheck of depends and then select 'GNOME Base System' and
'GNOME Desktop Environment' it will resolve all depends, but it will suggest
the removal of Java pattern (though apparently no packages) and Misc
Proprietary packages (including flash, realplayer, etc).
There are also many other strange things like not selecting all the proper
things for removal, including:
* compiz-gnome
* countless gnome-* packages (like gnome-main-menu, etc)
I think it would be nice if a user had the option to seamlessly install KDE
and/or GNOME as well as then remove them easily after.
