just for information: The eclipse package can indeed be compiled for Java 1.5
but is missing some features then. The compile instructions are not exactly
clear about which features are exactly missing, only which files need to be
deleted in order to get it compiled.
So we have two possibilities here: Compiling a limited version of Eclipse
(limitations seem to be rather minor though) in order to let it run with Java
1.5 or compile it the standard way which needs Java 1.6.
As we ship Java 1.5 AND Java 1.6 and the only Java 1.5 version is Sun's Java
1.5, I think we could make a require on 1.6 as well ... what advantage would it
have to let it run under 1.5?
Both solutions are easy to realize ... it's just a matter of taste.
Comments on this are welcome -- I don't see a big advantage to stick with 1.5.
Once 1.7 is completely open sourced (hopefully by the end of this year),
everything will require 1.7 anyways (just a prediction ;) ).
Regards,
Daniel
