[Bug 307046] Loading kernel hangs during installation on ThinkPad X40

Additional information: The X40 does not have a built-in DVD drive, but comes
with an external USB drive (IBM USB 2.0 Portable Multi-Burner). I am using the
external drive for the installation, as I have with all prior installations.
