Thanks for the logs.
Strange the content of your disk /dev/sda is correctly displayed by parted:
/usr/sbin/parted -s /dev/sda unit cyl print | sort -n
BIOS cylinder, head, sector geometry: 14946,255,63. Each cylinder is 8225kB.
Disk /dev/sda: 14946cyl
Model: ATA Maxtor 6Y120L0 (scsi)
Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
Partition Table: msdos
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
1 0cyl 1238cyl 1238cyl primary fat32
,,,,,,lba,,,type=0c,,
2 1239cyl 4502cyl 3264cyl extended
,,,,,,lba,,,type=0f,,
3 4503cyl 4633cyl 131cyl primary ,,,,,,,,type=82,,
4 4634cyl 14945cyl 10312cyl primary fat32 ,,,,,,,,,type=0b,,
5 1239cyl 3849cyl 2610cyl logical fat32 ,,,,,,,,,type=0b,,
6 3850cyl 4502cyl 652cyl logical fat32 ,,,,,,,,,type=0b,,
but the kernel detects no partitions on sda:
/proc/partitions:
major minor #blocks name
7 0 67092 loop0
8 0 120060864 sda
8 16 244198584 sdb
8 17 52428568 sdb1
8 18 86909760 sdb2
8 19 104857196 sdb3
Never seen such a behaviour.
Needs to be checked by kernel people.
