--- Comment #5 from Stephan Wefing 2007-08-05 09:26:15 MST ---
The monitor reports only the modes shown in comment 3 via DDC although it is
capable of handling higher resolutions and/or frequencies. (According to the
manual the maximal dot frequency is 230 MHz.) The problem is that by default
the mga driver respects the frequencies reported by the monitor for any
resolution that occurs in the list. However, adding option "NoDDC" to the
device section of xorg.conf, solves the problem, see attached xorg.conf and
Xorg.0.log.old. Now, the monitor runs at 90Hz with 1280x1024 pixels as it did
for older SuSE distributions.
Unfortunately, the NoDDC option is not documented for the mga driver, see "man
mga". (Perhaps it's a general option that pertains to all graphic cards?). sax2
does not offer the option for the G550 graphics card either. So one has to know
it and enter it manually to xorg.conf. Hence I propose to add the NoDDC option
to the list of options that sax2 can handle for a Matrox G550 graphics card.
