Summary: NetworkManager Should Support PPP Connections
Product: openSUSE 10.2
Version: Final
Platform: PC
OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Network
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: crispin@xxxxxxxxxx
QAContact: qa@xxxxxxx
Found By: Development
It's the latest thing; cell phone WAN cards that give you internet access
anywhere you can get cell coverage.
Linux perceives the card to be a MODEM, so you have to set up connectivity via
PPP. YaST will install and configure the card, but then you cannot manage the
network connection with NM, you have to leave NM turned off and manually go
turn on the network with some other software.
Worse, NM advertises to all the NM-aware desktop applications that you are
off-line, so you have to over-ride them to tell them to work online instead of
offline. This is especially vexing for Gaim/pidgin, which does not have a
button to override the online/offline mode.
