Because of inadequacies in NetworkManager (can't handle PPP connections) I
sometimes have to manually establish a network connection while NM thinks I am
still off line. Gaim believes NM and refuses to connect to chat, even thou
there is routable network. I could not find a button in Gaim to override the
online/offline mode.

Firefox had a similar problem, but it has a manual over ride for online/offline
mode. Gaim/pidgin should have such a feature, so that it can deal with this and
future limitations in NM.
