We've had this in the past and I'm seeing this now again on my X60:

yast installs grub into the mbr overwriting the thinkpad bootloader. When
you do this, the rescue partition no longer starts.

IMO there are two problems:

1) grub should _never ever_ be installed into the mbr
2) if it is, there is a script ('tp_mr') to be used on thinkpads
(which unfortunately no longer works correctly with x60 and needs to
be adjusted)

I can do 2) but I'm not sure this script is still used; please have a look.
