That is correct, but there is a backport/patch also for 2.6.18 available here:
http://jdelvare.pck.nerim.net/sensors/hwmon-it8716f-it8718f-v4-2.6.18.patch
Unfortunately I am not (yet) skilled enough to upgrade the kernel and Yast
doesn't offer a later kernel. As the current kernel also contains other
backports, I do not understand why above patch is not made available during
online-update?
At the same time I want to point out that lm_sensors version in both Ubuntu and
openSUSE is exactly the same: 2.10.1 and it was installed with Yast without any
tricks.
