https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=283040 Summary: Confusing and conflicting network set up tools. Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 4 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: raffo@cdi.com QAContact: qa@suse.de I am testing this alpha version in a Sony VAIO laptop. I have been having difficulties configuring the network interfaces. I've two cards: a D-Link PCMCIA ethernet card, DFE-690TXD, and a D-Link AirPlusG wireless card, DWL-G630. There is a built in ethernet port in the laptop, but it is broken. I can only use one at a time because both do not quite fit in the two available slots. I installed the laptop with the ethernet card in. During network configuration, it detected the ethernet card and I proceeded to configure it to use DHCP. It got an address and everything worked ok. (Installed the drivers for the wireless card) Then I removed the ether card and inserted the wireless card in the same slot. Yast2 would not detect it and kept listing the DFE-690TXD. In the meantime, the network tool that starts automatically in the KDE desktop panel would show the wireless card and allow me to enter the SSID and key; and fail to connect. Yast2 continued failing to show the card. I re-inserted the card in a different slot, and then finally Yast2 would detect it. I proceeded to setup the wireless SSID and keys. Still no network connection. Is there a connection between the KDE network applet and what the user sets up in YAST2? The KDE applet did not seem aware of the Yast configuration. To conclude, configuring the network devices for this laptop was very difficult with tools not detecting the devices and the same tools not being aware of the other's configuration. My "hwinfo --all" is attached and contains everything except the DFE-690TXD, it was unplugged when I run it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
