https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=282831 Summary: bootloader will not install on logical volume Product: SUSE LINUX 10.0 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: SLES 10 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: yast2-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: susa@itss.nerc.ac.uk QAContact: kkaempf@novell.com Booting SLES 10 installation media using QEMU to emulate x86_64 hardware and a logical volume as the installation destination like this: qemu-system-x86_64 \ -hda /dev/XenDisk/sles10 \ -cdrom /mnt/SLES-10-AMD64-EM64T-DVD1.iso \ -m 512 \ -boot d Installation works fine until installing grub. The mkintrd script runs ok but then the grub process just spins the cpu until it is killed manually at which point it is possible to continue with the installation albeit without grub installed. Grub cannot be installed by booting the SLES rescue image either. The only way I have found to install grub properly is to boot a third party rescue disk (in this case RIPLinuX-2.9.iso): qemu-system-x86_64 \ -hda /dev/XenDisk/sles10 \ -cdrom /mnt/SLES-10-AMD64-EM64T-DVD1.iso \ -m 512 \ -boot d enter the grub shell and: grub> find /boot/grub/stage1 (hd0,1) grub> root (hd0,1) Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83 grub> setup (hd0) After which SLES boots as expected. Qemu v0.9.0 (NOT using kqemu accelerator) SLES10 iso downloaded from Novell with matching checksum Host OS CentOS 5.0 with stock lvm2-2.02.16-3.el5 rpm -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
