- From: bugzilla_noreply@xxxxxxxxxx
- Date: Thu, 17 May 2007 23:51:28 -0600 (MDT)
- Message-id: <bug-275866-21960@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/>
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=275866
Summary: Intel Core 2 Duo reports wrong speed
Product: openSUSE 10.2
Version: Final
Platform: x86-64
URL: http://www.suseforums.net/index.php?showtopic=34123
OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Basesystem
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: ascendant256@xxxxxxxxx
QAContact: qa@xxxxxxx
The dynamic CPU frequency scaling mechanism does not detect the frequency of my
processor correctly.
Relevant hardware:
motherboard ECS P965T-A
http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Products/ProductsDetail.aspx?DetailID=681&CategoryID=1&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=44&LanID=9
Attention---v
Northbridge: Intel P965 Express
Southbridge: Intel ICH8
BIOS is newest available.
CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
Attention---v
normal operating frequency: 2130MHz
current operating frequency: 2660 MHz
detected operating frequency: 800 MHz
The scaler detects two possible frequencies, 600MHz and 800MHz. While the
system is supposedly running at 800MHz, it is running at the full 2600MHz.
While it is supposedly running at 600 MHz, it is actually running at (around)
1900MHz.
These numbers are based on times for SuperPI and assuming proportional time
performance numbers to actual MHz.
I have not been able to test whether or not this same error occurs with other
Linux OSs or kernels. Disabling SpeedStep in the BIOS seems not to have an
effect. below is the output of cat /proc/cpuinfo :
