I used the traditional method until a few days ago, then switched to
user-driven method. I started KNetworkamanger and picked the NIC.

After restarting the computer knetworkmanager is not started, although it was
active while quitting and KDE is set to remember the last session.

It does work for other apps such as kontact or amarok.
