Summary: Request OpenSUSE 10.3 to include FC Transport NPIV patch
Product: openSUSE 10.3
Version: Alpha 3plus
Platform: All
OS/Version: Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Enhancement
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Kernel
AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: james.smart@xxxxxxxxxx
QAContact: qa@xxxxxxx
CC: cgriffin@xxxxxxxxxx, rawipfel@xxxxxxxxxx,

In working with Novell Teams supporting Zenworks, etc, there is a desire to add
NPIV support to OpenSUSE 10.3, in preparation for SLES11. Although this could
be done by driver-specific methods, it is preferred that the vendor-agnostic
method of NPIV support via the FC transport is used.
This bugzilla is being used to request the addition of NPIV support into
SLES10SP2 by picking up the upstream NPIV patch for the FC transport. The
patches requested were posted upstream at :
http://marc.info/?l=linux-scsi&m=117768770720886&w=2
http://marc.info/?l=linux-scsi&m=117768824017278&w=2
I will add an attachment with the patches.
The original RFC for npiv was posted upstream in February:
http://marc.info/?l=linux-scsi&m=117226959918393&w=2
It has been reviewed by linux-scsi as well as by each of the linux FC driver
vendors, resulting in the final patch (above) being posted on 4/27.
FYI: In conversations with James Bottomley, as this has been under review for
over 2 months with little comment, he will be pulling it into the scsi-misc-2.6
tree shortly. It is expected the change will become part of the 2.6.23 kernel.
