There are currently 10 critical open gtk+ bugs with more than two dozen dups on
bugzilla.gnome.org (the top two have 266 and 117 dups respectively). These
affect a wide range of apps, but have proved difficult to fix because none of
the crash reports have good debug info.

If we added gtk2-debuginfo to our default install (at least for the beta
cycle), that might result in some of these bugs getting figured out and fixed.
