audacity does currently not build in STABLE because the version is old and
incompatible with wxGTK >= 2.8.

It should be updated to CVS (or a development release tarball, if available).
CVS HEAD is already fixed to build with wxGTK 2.8 and it is also compatible
with a unicode wxWidgets configuration.

This also means that wxGTK-compat can be finally removed in the same step, as
no other package than audacity still requires it.

Shipping a development release should not be a problem, other distributors are
doing this since a long time (Fedora: 01/2007, Mandriva: 11/2005).
