Sorry folks, I've run out of ideas.
What _appears_ to happen is this: results from speculative instruction
execution/decoding seem to survive a mode switch. I've worked around this
in places where I thought it matters and things got a bit better. But
apparently there's more to it as it crashes after a few interrupts.
I've no idea how to debug this, though.
