https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=251584 Summary: running new process take very much time. Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: pnemec@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de I have very strange problem. After couple of hours (half day or day) running any application take too much time. For example in opened xterm, when i call top. I had to wait 3-10 seconds before top start. It doesn`t matter if i run X application, or terminal app. Or if i switch terminal (ctr+alt+f1). I tried strace on top. It give interesting result: close(3) = 0 geteuid() = 1000 setfsuid(1000) = 1000 getegid() = 100 setfsgid(100) = 100 ioctl(1, SNDCTL_TMR_TIMEBASE or TCGETS, {B38400 opost isig icanon echo ...}) = 0 ioctl(1, SNDCTL_TMR_TIMEBASE or TCGETS, {B38400 opost isig icanon echo ...}) = 0 ioctl(1, SNDCTL_TMR_TIMEBASE or TCGETS, {B38400 opost isig icanon echo ...}) = 0 ioctl(1, TIOCGWINSZ, {ws_row=37, ws_col=118, ws_xpixel=0, ws_ypixel=0}) = 0 ioctl(0, SNDCTL_TMR_TIMEBASE or TCGETS, {B38400 opost isig icanon echo ...}) = 0 ioctl(0, SNDCTL_TMR_CONTINUE or TCSETSF, {B38400 opost isig -icanon -echo ...}) = 0 ioctl(0, SNDCTL_TMR_TIMEBASE or TCGETS, {B38400 opost isig -icanon -echo ...}) = 0 ioctl(1, TIOCGWINSZ, {ws_row=37, ws_col=118, ws_xpixel=0, ws_ypixel=0}) = 0 rt_sigaction(SIGALRM, {0x403f80, [ALRM], SA_RESTORER|SA_RESTART, 0x2b8ce999d5b0}, {SIG_DFL}, 8) = 0 rt_sigaction(SIGHUP, {0x403f80, [HUP], SA_RESTORER|SA_RESTART, 0x2b8ce999d5b0}, {SIG_DFL}, 8) = 0 rt_sigaction(SIGINT, {0x403f80, [INT], SA_RESTORER|SA_RESTART, 0x2b8ce999d5b0}, {SIG_DFL}, 8) = 0 rt_sigaction(SIGPIPE, {0x403f80, [PIPE], SA_RESTORER|SA_RESTART, 0x2b8ce999d5b0}, {SIG_DFL}, 8) = 0 rt_sigaction(SIGQUIT, {0x403f80, [QUIT], SA_RESTORER|SA_RESTART, 0x2b8ce999d5b0}, {SIG_DFL}, 8) = 0 rt_sigaction(SIGTERM, {0x403f80, [TERM], SA_RESTORER|SA_RESTART, 0x2b8ce999d5b0}, {SIG_DFL}, 8) = 0 rt_sigaction(SIGTSTP, {0x409e00, [TSTP], SA_RESTORER|SA_RESTART, 0x2b8ce999d5b0}, {SIG_DFL}, 8) = 0 rt_sigaction(SIGTTIN, {0x409e00, [TTIN], SA_RESTORER|SA_RESTART, 0x2b8ce999d5b0}, {SIG_DFL}, 8) = 0 rt_sigaction(SIGTTOU, {0x409e00, [TTOU], SA_RESTORER|SA_RESTART, 0x2b8ce999d5b0}, {SIG_DFL}, 8) = 0 rt_sigaction(SIGCONT, {0x403350, [CONT], SA_RESTORER|SA_RESTART, 0x2b8ce999d5b0}, {SIG_DFL}, 8) = 0 rt_sigaction(SIGWINCH, {0x403350, [WINCH], SA_RESTORER|SA_RESTART, 0x2b8ce999d5b0}, {SIG_DFL}, 8) = 0 stat("/proc/self/task", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0555, st_size=0, ...}) = 0 open("/proc", O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_DIRECTORY) = 3 fstat(3, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0555, st_size=0, ...}) = 0 fcntl(3, F_SETFD, FD_CLOEXEC) = 0 getdents64(3, /* 221 entries */, 8192) = 6136 stat("/proc/1", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0555, st_size=0, ...}) = 0 open("/proc/1/stat", O_RDONLY) = 4 read(4, "1 (init) S 0 1 1 0 -1 4202752 30"..., 1023) = 219 close(4) = 0 open("/proc/1/statm", O_RDONLY) = 4 read(4, "202 20 11 140 0 60 0\n", 1023) = 21 close(4) = 0 socket(PF_FILE, SOCK_STREAM, 0) = 4 fcntl(4, F_GETFL) = 0x2 (flags O_RDWR) fcntl(4, F_SETFL, O_RDWR|O_NONBLOCK) = 0 connect(4, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/var/run/nscd/socket"}, 110) = 0 poll([{fd=4, events=POLLOUT|POLLERR|POLLHUP, revents=POLLOUT}], 1, 5000) = 1 sendto(4, "\2\0\0\0\v\0\0\0\7\0\0\0passwd\0\0", 20, MSG_NOSIGNAL, NULL, 0) = 20 poll( On latest line it wait for 1-2 second and then continue with poll( [{fd=4, events=POLLIN|POLLERR|POLLHUP}], 1, 5000) = 0 close(4) = 0 socket(PF_FILE, SOCK_STREAM, 0) = 4 fcntl(4, F_GETFL) = 0x2 (flags O_RDWR) fcntl(4, F_SETFL, O_RDWR|O_NONBLOCK) = 0 connect(4, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/var/run/nscd/socket"}, 110) = 0 poll([{fd=4, events=POLLOUT|POLLERR|POLLHUP, revents=POLLOUT}], 1, 5000) = 1 writev(4, [{"\2\0\0\0\1\0\0\0\2\0\0\0", 12}, {"0\0", 2}], 2) = 14 poll( and wait again.
