This may loosely be related to Bug 227944
On an FSC Amilo Si1520 Notebook running openSuSE 10.3 alpha 1 plus the card
reader seems to be detected but it does not accept Sony / SanDisk "Memory
Stick" or "Memory Stick Pro Duo" ( which it does with Windows XP )
lspci | grep Ricoh shows:

dmesg | grep -i sdhci shows:
sdhci: Secure Digital Host Controller Interface driver, 0.12

sdhci:slot0: Controller reports > 25 MHz base clock, but no high speed support.
mmc0: SDHCI at 0xdc001800 irq 21 DMA
lsmod | grep -i mmc shows:
mmc_core 29572 1 sdhci
Inserting / removing the cards causes no activity, no device is created in /dev
