After updating metacity from 2.16.x to 2.17.5, minimizing and maximizing
windows is notably slower than it was before.

This is an Intel 855GM chipset with 3D acceleration enabled (i810 driver). The
old metacity version was really fast, the new one is almost as slow as compiz
is on this hardware.

e.g. inimizing a full-screen Firefox window needs almost 2 seconds until the
window decoration completely disappeared within the panel.
