[Bug 236142] New: unversioned self-provides should be a fatal error
- From: bugzilla_noreply@xxxxxxxxxx

- Message-id: <bug-236142-21960@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/>
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=236142
Summary: unversioned self-provides should be a fatal error
Product: openSUSE 10.3
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: Enhancement
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Basesystem
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: andreas.hanke@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
QAContact: qa@xxxxxxx
Packages are starting to provide themselves again on Factory, so far I could
identify libxfcegui4 and libxflaim-devel.
This is dangerous (see bug 186079) and always wrong. rpm automatically adds a
versioned self-provides and whenever an additional unversioned one is needed to
make things work, it's a bug somewhere. Therefore, autobuild should reject such
packages.
postgresql uses an explicit versioned self-provides for maybe-legitimate(?)
purposes, so the check should be restricted to completely unversioned
self-provides for now.
The same is true for self-obsoletes and self-conflicts, but these seem to be
rare. So far I've just seen 1 self-obsoletes and 1 indirect self-conflicts.
