Summary: Cannot partition HostRAID drive in opensuse 10.2 yast
when RAID volume name ends with [0-9]
Product: openSUSE 10.2
Version: Final
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Major
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Installation
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: djwong@xxxxxxxxxx
QAContact: jsrain@xxxxxxxxxx
I have an IBM x346 with the Adaptec 7902B U320 SCSI controller and HostRAID in
the SCSI BIOS. The system has two 36GB SCSI disks which I am configuring as a
RAID0. I am attempting to install OpenSUSE 10.2 onto the RAID0. The
installer correctly configures the RAID0 volume "ELM3A92" as
/dev/mapper/asr_ELM3A92; however, yast2 does not supply a partitioning
proposal.
When I try to manually set up partitions, I click "Create" in the partitioner
and then "OK" to accept all defaults (one big ext3 /, no label, etc).
Unfortunately, the dialog box goes away... but the partitions do not show up in
the partition list!
If I try these same steps but with the RAID volume named "RAID" (or anything
that does not end in [0-9]), I can create partitions without problems. The
installer also supplies a partitioning proposal when this is the case. The
Adaptec BIOS allows users to supply arbitrary ASCII strings for volume names,
so it's quite easy to hit this bug.
