Summary: following Yast online update of kernel system hung
during reboot
Product: SUSE Linux 10.1
Version: Final
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Other
Status: NEW
Severity: Major
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Kernel
AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: pmmt.inc@xxxxxxxxx
QAContact: qa@xxxxxxx
following a Yast online update of the kernel the system hung during a reboot.
it appears to be a kernel panic, but I don't have any details. this has
happened twice. the first time I upgraded the kernel and a couple of
additional packages. (I was able to restore the system with a knoppix liveCD
and a backup of the root and /var partitions.) the second time this happened I
upgraded only the kernel.
the kernel upgrade was:
Patch:
Kernel Update for SUSE Linux 10.1
Source Timestamp: 2006/12/13 09:34:50 UTC
CVS Branch: SLES10_GA_BRANCH
packages:
kernel-smp
kernel-source
mkinitrd
udev
I'm not in a big hurry to make my system inoperable again, but if it would help
I would be willing to reinstall the patch, if you can provide me with
instructions on how to get the information you need. btw, the hardware is
x86-64 as previously specified, but it's dual core (if it makes any
difference).
