- From: bugzilla_noreply@xxxxxxxxxx
- Date: Fri, 29 Dec 2006 08:00:58 -0700 (MST)
- Message-id: <bug-231084-21960@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/>
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231084
Summary: installation failed
Product: openSUSE 10.2
Version: RC 5
Platform: i586
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Installation
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: manfred.albat@xxxxxx
QAContact: jsrain@xxxxxxxxxx
Linux: OpenSuSE 10.2 i586 2.6.18.2-34
(after updating online some patches)
originally it was the DVD-ISO downloaded
week before x-mas
Problem: installation failed immediately after loading kernel,
black screen, no activity
Workaround: no linux-boot-option was succesful,
but after deactivating BIOS-boot-option APIC
installation worked fine.
Special hints: - after deactivating APIC in BIOS, the installion-
window shows much more detail in background:
those little x-mas-lemmings I saw not before.
- this was the first time, SuSE Linux failed
installation: 8.x,9.x,10.1 had worked fine
with the same hardware, only exception the
ethernet-adapter described below.
Computer: rather old Compaq Deskpro
CPU: Pentium III (Coppermine) 730 MHz
RAM: mixed chips, 512MB
Video: onboard nVidia RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro with Compaq-Monitor S910
Disc-controler: Intel 82801BA IDE
Harddisc: Western Digital IDE WD2500JB-00GVA0
DVD-ROM: JLMS LTD-166S
and some others like this
- Fritz-ISDN, not connected
- onboard-ethernet, not connected
- lowcost ethernet-card 10/100/1000 with RTL-8169
connected to LAN-router
(this is the only new component in last year)
