I prefer (1) because then you don't necessarily need to have xorg-x11 installed
on a system on which you only start some X11 apps, but don't use it to start
complete Xsessions. I remember that many packagers removed the Requires to
xorg-x11 therefore from their packages in the last years. Any chance to close
this one as WONTFIX or will you repoen it again and again for the time being?
