Summary: fan not working
Product: openSUSE 10.2
Version: Final
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1
Status: NEW
Severity: Blocker
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Kernel
AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

the fan of my notebook is working only in acpi=off and after some time the
system hungs up when the temperature goes too high. on start when triggering on
the fan it stops instead of starting.
this doesn't happen on opensuse 10.1 with the 2.6.16 kernel, and with the
2.6.19 kernel, but happens on opensuse 10.2 both with 2.6.18 and 2.6.19 kernels
and on opensuse 10.1 with the 2.6.18 and 2.6.17 kernel.
the firmware probe gives the following fails and warnings when ran in acpi=off
mode:

fail DMI info check
f out of spec value found
f bad index value found
f out of spec value found

fail general ACPI info
f pci express port driver reports an invalid IRQ

fail cpu freq scaling
4 cpu fre scaling states
f supposedly higher freq is slower on cpu 0
f supposedly higher freq is slower on cpu 0

fail (experimental) apic edge/level check
f legacy interrupt 1 is incorrectly edge triggered
f legacy interrupt 8 is incorrectly edge triggered
f legacy interrupt 12 is incorrectly edge triggered
f legacy interrupt 14 is incorrectly edge triggered

fail hpet configuration test
f failed to locate hpet base

warn acpi passive thermal trip point
w zone * doesn't support passive trip points

all the other test were ok. when ran on acpi=on the firmware tester hungs up.

the hw specs of the notebook are:

fujitsu-siemens amilo 1655g, amd turion mt 37 2000 mhz, 1mb l2 chache, 1024 mb
ram, shared with vram 128mb ati xpress 200 m pcie video card, 80 gb hd on
atiixp controller, synaptic touchpad, broadcom bcm43xx wireless controller,
fujitsu fast ethernet controller. if you need the hwinfo ask for it. thanks
