Thanks again for all your help.
Like you said, it does seem like the Xserver should have taken the manual
config over the nonsense numbers just because it seems like editing my
xorg.conf file would make more sense than hiding a library. 
Anyway, it's a bit of a relief you found the problem.  I'm happy to be able to
keep using my favorite distro :o)  Thanks!
