https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227469 Summary: Trident XP5 driver causes system lockup Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: andymay@blueyonder.co.uk QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com The system is a Dell Inspiron 5160 laptop with XP5 Trident screen. Installation of SuSE 10.2 works fine and the system fully boots, but as soon as X server is started the system completely locks up, not even able to get a console. By booting into run level 3 and making the single line change of the driver from trident to fbdev and rebooting gets X server working quite well, although scrolling in firefox for instance is very slow and jumpy. If SaX2 is used to try and reconfigure X settings then it causes the machine to crash whilst testing the configuration. output of rpm -q xorg-x11-server xorg-x11-driver-video: xorg-x11-server-7.2-30 xorg-x11-driver-video-7.2-33 output of hwinfo --gfx: 22: PCI(AGP) 100.0: 0300 VGA compatible controller (VGA) [Created at pci.286] UDI: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_1023_2200 Unique ID: VCu0.vBe_o4Q7vD8 Parent ID: vSkL.oF7y00qHwA3 SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:01.0/0000:01:00.0 SysFS BusID: 0000:01:00.0 Hardware Class: graphics card Model: "Dell XP5" Vendor: pci 0x1023 "Trident Microsystems Inc."
