https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225639 Summary: Smartmontools on SATA disk problem Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: RC 1 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: volker3204@paradise.net.nz QAContact: qa@suse.de Smartmontools works fine on PATA disks. On a SATA disk, these two commands smartctl -data -Son /dev/sda smartctl -data -oon /dev/sda cause a 100% CPU use for about 3 seconds. -oon produces a failure but nevertheless seems to have the intended result. There appears to be no other ill effect, but it looks like to me that the data exchange between smartctl and the disk is somehow corrupted a bit. kernel-default-2.6.18.2-33 AMD64, nforce4 chipset, onboard SATA 00:07.0 IDE interface: nVidia Corporation CK804 Serial ATA Controller (rev f3) disk is Device Model: SAMSUNG SP2504C Serial Number: S09QJ10Y9.....
