https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=222510 Summary: YAST - System Update - Initial Warning erroneous and functionality unclear Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: alpha096@tpg.com.au QAContact: jsrain@novell.com On opening System Update in YAST the initial error response/warning is "The installed product is not compatible with the product on the installation media. If you try to update using the current installation media, the system may not start or some applications may not run properly." I interoperate the 'installed product' to be the product on the HDD of the PC and I also interoperate 'the current installation media' as the same software catalogue on the HDD of the PC. I think it is trying to say don't use this application to update itself, being the installed product. There is almost no help reference to this application. ALL the options available for change are available in other forms of YAST and I was wondering if this application exists as a legacy tool. It does not seem to serve any purpose I can either think of or find reference to, however 'the current installation media' could refer to the media sources defined in 'installation source of YAST. If this is the case and the installation source is a NFS drive containing a complete media set it makes sense. I think this application is used to update multiple PC's which have access to a single NFS drive where a NEW media revision is present or the same media revision. On initial opening of this application and after selecting continue the small help strip is almost blank. If my assumptions above are correct then I think we need to add some clarify to the warning, the small help strip and on-line help. Again if correct in assumption this could be a god send for updating many PC's at the same time. If my assumptions are NOT correct I don't know what additional functionality this provides other than what is available in other forms of YAST applications. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
