https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=220587 Summary: Formatting partition fails Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 2 Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: zajec5@gmail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Installation of openSUSE 10.2 Beta2 fails trying to format my /dev/sda5 as ext3 partition. Error I can see (progress of formating: 81%) is: ***** Error Failure partition during following action: Formating partition /dev/sda5 (10.3 GB) with ext3 System error code was: -3008 /sbin/mke2fs -O dir_index -j -v /dev/sda5 : mke2fs 1.39 (29-May-2006) Could not write 8 blocks in inode table starting at 8896539: Attemp to write block from filesystem resulted in short write ***** When I chceck info about hard disk, I can see: /dev/sda5 (disk, dev 8:0-8:15) Model: "ST3120023AS" Revision: "3.01" Serial: "3KA1STQ9" Driver: "ata_piix" Geometry (Logical): CHS 14593/255/63 Size: 2344393535 sectors (112 GB) Geometry (BIOS EDD): CHS 232578/16/63 --one_more_line_i_didnt_write-- ***** It is strange for me, because I am able to install openSUSE 10.2 Beta2 by preformatting /dev/sda5 as ext3 using SuSE Linux 10.1 version. I just make a hard-reset after successfully formating, insert openSUSE 10.2 Beta2 DVD and check installator to do not format my /dev/sda5. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
