I placed a plain SLE10 kernel with ACPI_PNP compiled out and mouse again
compiled in here:
ftp.suse.com/pub/people/trenn/sle10_SP1_hp_fix_cpufreq_no_ACPI_PNP

AFAIK ACPI_PNP plays around with system resources and potentially has the power
to mess up system memory, which I think (if I interpret Vojtechs input right)
psmouse has not.
If this works I have a beginning where in kernel code it's worth to look at...
