https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=208195 Summary: Enabling Kerberos should automatically enable NTP Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Alpha 4 plus Platform: All OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: jsuchome@novell.com ReportedBy: lrupp@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com CC: kmachalkova@novell.com Playing around with a remastered Alpha4plus (containing yast2-kerberos-client-2.14.3-3, yast2-ntp-client-2.13.12-7, yast2-users-2.13.35-6)), I figured out that during installation a kerberos setup is possible (nice, btw) but the NTP client: * isn't enabled by default. But kerberos without ntp (see http://www.upenn.edu/computing/pennkey/sysadmin/d_install_unix/time.html for example) is not really usefull. So NTP should be enabled by default if a user activates kerberos. * isn't able to connect to NTP servers because of the restrictions in the firewall settings. After enabling "open the Firewall port" (two windows later in the kerberos workflow) everything works as expected. My proposal: if the user activates kerberos, NTP should be enabled, too. Also a popup message should inform the user that it is necessary to open the firewall port for NTP (perhaps show him a Yes/No query which opens the port on all interfaces?). As I know, NTP could also run via TCP/IP and this setup shouldn't need an open firewall port. But I'm not the NTP guru to decide if this results in another bug for our yast2-ntp-client. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
