Thanks for the tcpdump traces.
They show fairly uniform - though not extremely high - packet lot.
Of slightly over 13000 write requests, 10000 get through on the first
attempt, 3000 on the second attempt 250 on the third, 50 on the fourth
and make a 5th attempt. Any of these that don't make it through cause
a timeout message.
I suggest you simply remove the 'soft' option. It isn't really safe and will
completely fix your problem.
I don't know why the OS upgrade made this worse. The most like explanation
is that the network driver is losing more packets for some reason.
Please confirm that removing 'soft' (or replacing it with 'hard') fixes
your problem and we can close the bug.
