Dear Sirs,
In the past, I've posted into opensuse-project a small email declaring
my intention of working for a openSUSE based spin with Cinnamon
(+GNOME). Unfortunatly no answers/feedback were given, which led me to
work off project for this. And so "Moniz" was born.
I've named my project "Moniz" after the Portuguese Knight Martim
Moniz, the Great Hero from the Siege of Lisbon in 1147. The legend
says he noticed one of the gates open and immediately attacked the
gates and used his body to prevent the gates from being closed.
According to the Historical novel, Afonso the Conqueror, a group of
German and British Templars which was nearly charged and holded the
gate until the main corps of the army arrived under the command of
Afonso I of Portugal. Lisbon would fall and would never be captured by
any enemy, even Napoleon failed.
Moniz aims to be only a set of branding packages on top of a
customized Cinnamon driven mainly towards a Portuguese audience
(default localization is Portuguese and Spanish) and it's clearly
positioned as a Classic Desktop experience. A part of Moniz will be
developed on OBS, and the rest off-project, for example one welcome
screen I've forked from mint and called "tirpitz", which will enable
users to install codecs, graphic drivers and friends. Other
applications are being considered for this once I feel more
confortable with Python and PyGTK.
The sole objective of this email is to:
1) Request permission to use the expression: "Based on openSUSE $VERSION";
2) Offer my work to the Project as an independent contributor in
order to create a new spin based on Cinnamon;
a) Namespace on OBS with the hability to use Kiwi;
b) Namespace on the Wiki
c) Forum under the official forums (which I can take to Jim and
his group of people);
The most important is 1) as I don't want to violate any trademarks or
any infringements. 2) is alternative and up to you to decide if the
project wants or not wants this, either way, in-project or off-project
this will move on.
All the best,
NM
