As the stock kernel of openSUSE 12.2 seems to have a problem with some AMD FirePro cards (crash on switch from VT7 to any other, crash when KEXECing to installed system), I would like to use the latest kernel from openSUSE12.2:update repository and (re)build the initrd.
Could anyone give me a hint on how I would recreate the initrd that is used to boot the installation CD (i.e. in the OSS repository under /boot) with the latest kernel?
Could you perhaps solve this by adding the usual "nomodeset" at startup?
Yes, that does solve the problem and prevent the crash. Unfortunately, AY seems to include the kernel options set at installation time in /boot/grub/menu.lst of the installed system. I would thus need to remove "nomodeset" again from the installed system. Or is there a way to prevent this behavior? -- Dipl.-Ing. Joschi Brauchle, M.S.
