[opensuse-autoinstall] How to have zmd running whilst a "post" script is being called

I have a setup in SLES10 SP2 with a "post" script that needs to use
'rug' to get info back.
Obviously rug needs to talk to ZMD, so I added a `rczmd start` at the
beginning of the script,
but that didn't work either. Is there any other way I can get zmd up at
that time?
Thanks
