FWIW, at Intel we've long had a line in a chroot script which copies the
modified.xml file to the /var/adm/autoinstall/cache directory alongside
the installedSystem.xml file.

Although I agree it would be nice if autoyast saved the modified one itself,
I'd like to point out that it's sometimes useful, for debugging, to have both
the original and modified profiles.
