Using a dd image to install with AutoYaST

I hope this turns out to be an easy question.
I want to do the following:
1. Install a GOLD server with SLES9 SP2
2. shutdown the server, take out the drive and mount it in another
server
3. do "dd if=/dev/sdb of=sles9sptinstall.img conv=sync"
4. Use that image to stage from AutoYaST
5. Have AutoYaST reconfigure network, hostname, etc.
Now I have been trying to use the docs on Anas website and I am still
having
difficulty with the steps above #4 and getting this to work.
If anyone can shed some light on what I am missing, point me to a FAQ,
or give me a link to an
archive where this has been discussed, it would be appreciated.
I would prefer to use AutoYaST instead of something like g4l with
homegrown scripts to accomplish this.
thanks

- Does the customer need a diskette drive?
The x460 does not have a diskette drive.
If a diskette drive is required,
a USB diskette drive such as the IBM USB
portable Diskette Drive (05K9276) can be used.
