So, does that mean that I need to get SuSE8.1 installed or Enterprise8 to
get the proper autoyast interface? Or can I install some packages on my 9.0
server?

AutoYast in JDS is a lower version than the AutoYast provided with SuSE 9.0.
The changes in the file format can be an issue in this case. You can have
