Yes, that's the way I've got it working now. The sound and network config are left out of the autoyast control file, and then auto-detected and (mostly) auto-configured by the suse 8.2 "hardware wizard" on first login. I was hoping to find that same functionality in autoyast.
Sometimes it could be nessecary to define a certain driver for a certain graphics card, but I don't know how to do this either.
Automating the X config worked ok for me. Using the autoyast gui I just turned X on, set it to 1024x768@16 bits, and it figured the card out on it's own. Not necessarily optimal settings, but usable.
